Consultation for the Nation: How can planners be sure that engagement is representative and effective?04/04/19

The NPPF places an increased emphasis on community engagement, recognising the benefits that it can bring to both projects and plan making. However, achieving positive results within limited timeframes and budgets can be challenging. It is therefore important to ensure that engagement is both representative and effective. This seminar will explore how community engagement is evolving, the pitfalls and opportunities of ‘engaging online’ and how we can overcome the various barriers to engagement. Together with best practice examples, we will learn how to identify the needs and interests of key community stakeholders and how to plan and organise consultation events effectively, including the importance of a bespoke approach and the use of feedback in cultivating trust and inclusivity.
